Expectations
regarding construction
standards, product performance, and maintenance responsibilities can be tricky subjects, but
they don't need to be. Good communication and
understanding what is realistic and what everyone's
responsibilities are makes the project and the continuing life
of the home more pleasant.
The Madison Area
Builders Association produces a document they call "suggested
construction standards". This is a VERY good document to
have. If you are building a new home with anyone you
should purchase a copy. If we are building your new home
we will give you a copy! This document is our "bible" for
defining what our construction standard are. It gives us
and our clients a common reference for defining both complicated
and simple things like -- what is the industry standard
for "level".
We have also
included several links to some of our documents below. The
first is our sample warranty. The second is called helpful
hints, and it is our very condensed version of the Madison Area
Builders Association suggested standards document. It
covers some of the most common areas of misunderstanding.
The last is a document we use with our clients in their
pre-closing punch list walk-through.
